The Year that Never Ends (Until it Does)

Let’s all be honest: 2020 has sucked bad.

But! It’s almost over, and I want to take a little while to revisit some of the awesome things that happened this year, and some of the things I’m looking forward to in 2021.

So, some super cool shit that happened this year:

  1. Sam and I finished the Fire and Valor series, publishing both The Prince’s Dragon and The Assassin’s Dragon. This is the kind of fantasy I always wanted to read (and, okay, write): unapologetically queer, epic, and full of dragons.

  2. We put Fire and Valor out on audio, with the help of Lessa Lamb, Greg Boudreaux, and their team. They did an incredible job, and I’ve never been prouder of a project. Like, ever.

  3. We returned to the world of Lords of the Underworld with the first book in the Sons of Olympus Series, Wildfire, and planned two more books in the new series.

  4. I learned how to work at home. Seriously, peeps, I NEVER worked at home. I’d spend my money on a latte and plop down at a cafe and sit there all day, because I needed the ambient noise to focus. I still miss that, but after some trial and error, I adjusted to being home all the time, and I’m glad I could do that little bit to help keep my community safe without sacrificing the career I love.

  5. I’ve made tons of exciting plans for 2021—both for solo projects and with Sam. It’ll be the first year I’m writing full-time, so I can’t wait to get things rolling with two cowritten releases in January, In Death, the follow up to For Life (published in 2020 in Heart2Heart: Vol. 4), and A Dragon’s Fortune, part of a very cool shared-element series organized by Meghan Maslow that we’re doing with some of the best authors in M/M fantasy and romance out there!

While I’m really bummed about missed opportunities—I’d planned to go to the Nebulas and to GRL this year and had to cancel both trips, there were writers retreats planned and missed, and I couldn’t go to my usual writing haunts to get work done—I’m looking forward to new opportunities next year. Fingers crossed it’s an easier year for all of us!
